New Gboard feature helps Android users who type in landscape mode،

How many of you put your phone in landscape orientation before typing a message to take advantage of the larger QWERTY keys? With today’s larger and thinner phones, the problem with typing in landscape mode is that the keyboard covers a large portion of the screen. By Android Font, a new feature was released in Gboard beta 13.6 that fixes this issue by opening the keyboard with its floating layout in landscape mode by default. Return the phone to portrait mode and the QWERTY returns to its usual location.
It looks like all Gboard beta testers using an Android phone are getting this feature. It showed up on my Pixel 6 Pro running Android 14 QPR1 Beta 2.2, and I’m a Gboard beta tester. To check if you are a Gboard beta tester and see which version of the app you have on your phone, go to Settings > apps > See all xxx apps. Scroll down to Gboard, tap the list, scroll down and you will see the version number of the app running on your phone.

As we said, you need to be running beta 13.6. The version on my Pixel is 13.6.06.574113912-beta-arm64-v8a and this shows that I am a beta tester for Gboard, which is why I have the keyboard floating when I type in landscape mode. If your version number doesn’t say beta, you won’t have the feature yet even if you have version 13.6. But don’t worry too much, the feature should arrive very soon for all Android Gboard users .

Once you’re in landscape mode and the floating QWERTY is right in front of you, you can move the keyboard by dragging it using the bottom bar. If you want to return to the full-size QWERTY layout in landscape mode, drag the floating keyboard to the bottom of the screen and, like magic, it will open to the full-size QWERTY layout in landscape mode that you know.

Once done, the keyboard will not return to the floating landscape layout unless you follow these instructions. To return to floating QWERTY in landscape mode and open it that way by default, tap the blue circle icon on the left of the toolbar with the four boxes inside it. The first option you will see is “Floating”. Tap on it and you will get the floating keyboard back.

This should definitely help those who like to type in landscape mode to have a clearer version of their email app as they type. Not to belabor the point, but as long as you’re an Android beta tester for Gboard, this feature should now be available on your device, regardless of the phone’s manufacturer or model.
