WhatsApp Calls Are Now More Secure Than Ever: Here’s Why،

In a bid to boost user privacy, Meta-owned WhatsApp has rolled out a new feature called ‘Protect IP Address When Calling’. This addition aims to increase security during WhatsApp calls by routing them through the platform’s servers, effectively hiding users’ IP addresses from other call participants. Meta emphasizes that this feature is specifically designed for privacy-conscious users of the platform, adding an extra layer of privacy.

The “Protect IP address in calls” feature aligns with WhatsApp’s commitment to end-to-end encryption of calls, ensuring that even WhatsApp itself cannot access the content of conversations. Comparable to the iOS 15 feature that hides IP addresses, users can enable this feature through Privacy Settings by going to Advanced Options. It is important to note that enabling this setting may result in reduced call quality.

This privacy improvement follows the recent introduction of the “Silence Unknown Callers” feature. Using a specialized protocol, WhatsApp sends silent call notifications for unknown numbers, potentially reducing spam calls. Even though users will not receive notifications for such calls, they will still be visible in call logs for reference.

To access the “Protect IP address when calling” feature, users can visit the app’s privacy settings and select the Advanced option. The “Remember IP address when calling” option can be enabled or disabled based on individual preferences. As users explore this additional layer of security, it sparks thoughts about the tradeoff between increased privacy and a potential reduction in call quality.

For more information on this latest privacy feature and a guide on enabling it, users can refer to the official WhatsApp documentation or ask for help on the platform. As this update rolls out, the community is encouraged to share their views on the effectiveness and usefulness of WhatsApp’s new privacy feature in the comments section.
