Apple is working on in-housed batteries for 2025 iPhones to deliver battery performance،

It appears that the Cupertino-based giant is working on a next-generation battery for its iPhones that will be released in 2025, possibly with materials that are not commercially available in the smartphone market. Apple has been developing technology for several years that could offer promising performance once it arrives in 2025.

A report by ET News states that it is not just manufacturing, but Apple also deals with the development of materials used in the construction of batteries, such as cathode and anode materials. For those who don’t know, the anode and cathode are main elements of batteries which influence their density, efficiency and stability. Current cathode materials include cobalt, manganese, nickel and aluminum. However, the tech giant is actively looking for a new composition for the cathode that would effectively improve its performance.

Additionally, the tech giant is working on using carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as a conductive material in the battery. NTCs have shown excellent performance even when used in small quantities and it appears that Apple could work with them. The report further adds that Apple plans to increase the silicon content of anode materials, which will improve the battery capacity and reduce the charging and discharging period. Silicon would replace graphite and the technology to do so would also have been secure.

Apple is known for its high-performance iPhones but with limited battery capacity. Its high-end iPhone 15 Pro Max sports a 4,441 mAh battery, the largest among iPhones.

Compare it with the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and it’s still 12% smaller than the latter. Apple is said to be working on an internal battery since 2018 and since then the mobile user experience has changed drastically, especially as iPhones become powerful and equipped with technologies such as mixed reality and metaverse, thus calling for improved performance of the battery on board iPhones.

iPhones with internal batteries are expected around 2025 or later, which means there’s still a long way to go.
