MediaTek Dimensity 9300 Vs. Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3: Which Is More Power Efficient?،

MediaTek recently announced its flagship mobile processor, the Dimensity 9300 SoC, to take on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Over the next year, consumers will see several high-end Android phones with either of these chips. Unlike every year, the Dimensity 9300 SoC is slightly more powerful than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 this year. This is reflected in the performance/power consumption ratio shared by a tipster on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Dimensity 9300 SoC could be powerful and efficient than Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

Popular tipster Ice Universe shared an image that shows the power efficiency-CPU load curve of four chipsets, including Dimensity 9200+, Dimensity 9300, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. It contains a graph with Geekbench 5 multi – base score on Y axis and motherboard power consumption (W) on X axis.

As the graph shows, the Dimensity 9300 SoC performs better than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 while consuming the same power. This indicates that MediaTek’s new mobile processor could be more energy efficient than Qualcomm’s latest chip. The Dimensity 9300 SoC also consumes more power, but it exceeds the maximum performance of the 8 Gen 3.

This is how the graph reads

Performance/power consumption graph of Dimensity 9300 SoC versus Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 via Ice Universe

While consuming just over 16W, the Dimensity 9300 SoC scored over 7,000 points on the Geekbench 5 multi-core benchmark. At the same time, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 peaked below 7,000 points on the same test. while consuming just under 14W. With a power consumption of around 15W, the Dimensity 9300 SoC can achieve a higher score, indicating that it requires less power to achieve levels higher performance.

The chart also shows that this was not the case for the Dimensity 9200 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, the latest generation mobile processors from both companies. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 was more powerful and efficient than the Dimensity 9200 SoC. However, it seems that MediaTek has learned its lesson and is offering a more balanced processor this year.

Samsung Exynos 2400 SoC performance scores are disappointing

The informant mentions that the test was carried out on an engineering mobile phone. Additionally, he also talks about the Exynos 2400 SoC, which is not even close to MediaTek and Qualcomm chips. A recent Geekbench listing also corroborates this, where the Korean unit of the Galaxy S24, with the Exynos 2400 SoC, was only able to score 2,051/6,204 points in the single-core/multi-core performance test.
