Here’s how Google Photos’ upcoming “Photo Stack” feature will reportedly work،
A new Google Photos feature called “Photo Stack” is currently in development and promises to make organizing your photos easier than ever. Although we heard about this upcoming feature last month, we can now see how it actually works.
According to the conclusions of
LeSpAndroid After successfully enabling the not-yet-deployed feature, Photo Stack automatically groups similar photos together. This feature was created to help users keep their photo stream clutter-free and be able to find photos more easily.
Once deployed, Photo Stack will not be enabled by default, but will instead need to be enabled via the Settings > Preferences > Stack Similar Photos button in
Google Photos. Once enabled, Google Photos will automatically
start grouping similar photos together. Additionally, there will be another way to enable Photo Stack from the main Photos tab, which can be done by tapping the three-dot icon in the upper left corner and selecting “Stack Photos similar”.
When you tap on a stacked photo, a new page will open showing you the “Top Pick” photo and a bottom bar with all the other photos in the stack. You can edit the Top Pick photo by opening any other photo in the stack and tapping the three-dot icon in the upper right corner. From here you can select “Set as first choice”.
You can also remove photos from a stack by tapping the “Remove from Stack” option. If you want to keep one photo from the stack and delete the rest, you can tap the “Keep this, delete the rest” option.
Google has yet to officially announce the Photo Stack release date, or if that will be the final name of the feature, but we expect it to roll out to all users in the coming weeks, judging by the advanced state of the feature at this point. It also remains to be seen how useful this feature will prove, as it will introduce yet another way to organize photos without users having to manually create albums.
