Just a minute after the iPhone 15 launch, rumors and reports about the iPhone 16 lineup started pouring in. The latest news comes from Jeff Pu of Haitong International Securities. The analyst predicted that the iPhone 16 Pro will have a faster 5G modem and Wi-Fi 7 for better connectivity. Additionally, Pu also suggests that the 2024 iPhone Pro model will feature a new ultra-wide lens.
The iPhone 16 Pro will feature a new 5G modem
In a note to investors (viewed by 9To5Mac), Pu talks about potential changes to the iPhone 16 lineup, citing information from Apple’s supply chain sources. The iPhone 16 Pro, according to the analyst, will come with the new A18 Pro silicon chip built on 3nm manufacturing technology.
Although the new chipset packs 8GB of RAM, like the iPhone 15 Pro line, it will come with the Snapdragon X75 modem, which should deliver higher download speeds over 5G (up to 7.5Gbps) .
Compared to Wi-Fi 6e on the iPhone 15 Pro, the iPhone 16 Pro will feature Wi-Fi 7, the fastest wireless networking standard. In theory, the next Pro iPhones should reach download speeds of 46 Gbps, depending on the router and network strength.
New ultra-wide sensor on the iPhone 16 Pro
The iPhone 16 Pro could also feature a new ultra-wide sensor, increasing the resolution from 12MP to 48MP. If this happens, it will be a significant upgrade, as the 12 MP ultra-wide sensor on iPhones often lacks detail, especially if trying to zoom in. Since the ultra-wide lens also doubles as a macro lens, the higher resolution should benefit macro photography as well. .
Another unexpected change in the iPhone lineup concerns its size. The new iPhones will be 0.2 inches larger than the current 6.1 and 6.7 inches. Ming-Chi Kuo and Ross Young have also corroborated this claim in the past. The slight increase in dimensions will allow Apple to equip the iPhone 16 Pro with a larger tetra-prism lens for up to five times optical zoom.
