Refurbished 5th-gen iPod MP3 units sell out online،

Refurbished iPod units received a new battery and 128 GB of flash storage. The listing on the retailer’s website indicated that this particular iPod model was from 2007 and that each buyer received a sync cable and original Apple headphones. When this iPod first went on sale in 2007, it was priced at $249. Urban Outfitters was selling the refurbished unit for $349 and the retailer’s entire inventory was sold out.
When Apple launched the iPhone in 2007, the company was selling about 40 million iPods a year. When the phone was unveiled in January 2007, the late Steve Jobs called the iPhone a “widescreen iPod with touch controls.” The first iPod touch was introduced in September 2007 and the device ran on the same operating system as the iPhone. Jobs once called the product “iPhone training wheels.”

We don’t know how many units Urban Outfitter had, but it’s somewhat surprising these days that an MP3 player would generate enough business to sell. After all, most people now use their smartphones to take their music with them and stream it to true wireless stereo headphones like AirPods. Overall, the iPod product line has been hugely successful for Apple with over 450 million units sold between 2001 and 2022.

It’s unclear whether Retrospekt plans to refurbish and restore more 5th generation iPods or whether it will shift its focus to other iPod models. But given that every unit available on Urban Outfitters has been purchased, it would seem silly for the company and retailer not to continue to cash in on the nostalgic craze that has consumers shelling out money to buy them .
