Last month, we announced that Apple was preparing to unveil three new iPads on October 17. We expected a new 11th generation base iPad, a new iPad Air powered by the M2 chipset, and a seventh generation iPad mini with the 4nm A16 Bionic under the hood. And we also said that the third generation Apple Pencil would appear with support for USB-C charging. So what happened?

On October 17, we didn’t receive any new iPads from Apple, but we did receive the new third-generation Apple Pencil. The new Pencil doesn’t have all the features of the $99 first-generation and $129 second-generation Apple Pencils.

The third-generation Apple Pencil will charge using a built-in USB-C port

To help bring the price down to $79, the third-generation Apple Pencil doesn’t offer pressure sensitivity or wireless charging. It offers low latency, precision and tilt sensitivity. It also has a matte finish and a flat side where the magnet is that allows the pencil to attach to the side of an iPad.

If you order the third-generation Apple Pencil from Apple today, it will arrive between November 8 and 10. Just a few days ago, the delivery window was between November 3rd and 7th. You can also head to your nearest Apple Store and pick up the new Apple Pencil in person.
