Samsung files lawsuit against BOE accusing of stolen technologies،

On October 31, South Korean giant Samsung filed a lawsuit against Chinese display maker BOE with the United States International Trade Commission (US ITC). The lawsuit was filed accusing BOE of unfair competition by using stolen intellectual property from Samsung to manufacture OLED panels.

The two technology giants, Samsung and BOE, have been at loggerheads for several years now. Samsung’s display company, “Samsung Display”, attempted to stop 17 wholesalers selling OLED panels in the United States using technology stolen and illegally produced in China. However, this was not an apparent attack on BOE at the time. Shortly thereafter, the U.S. ITC took action against the BOE, opening an investigation earlier this year.

BOE has filed various lawsuits against Samsung in China, including against its various subsidiaries: Samsung Display, semiconductors, vision and investment arms. It seems that Samsung is ready to wage a legal war with BOE as it has now filed a complaint against BOE with the US ITC, accusing the latter of stealing its intellectual property and technology to make OLED panels.

For those not in the know, BOE has actively tried to drive out OLED manufacturers such as Samsung. Previously, Samsung and LG had 100% share in terms of OLED panels, but these two companies are now holding on to the lion’s share of 80%, followed by 20% from China, like BOE.

BOE has worked hard to accept Apple iPhone OLED orders, but has repeatedly failed to meet Apple’s strict quality standards. With the iPhone 15 series in production, Apple had to turn to Samsung Displays for more panels costing extra per unit after BOE failed to supply quality panels for the iPhones.

OnePlus 12

The Chinese display maker recently landed a big project to supply its Oriental X1 OLED panels to the upcoming OnePlus 12. The flagship device is expected to arrive later this year in China and will hit global markets early next year . It remains to be seen how well BOE’s OLED panels perform in the case of the OnePlus 12.
