Internal Apple memo says fix for Apple Watch overheating and battery draining is “coming soon”،

But watchOS 10.1 also brought something else to Apple Watch models eligible to install the update: significant battery drain. As if that wasn’t enough, the affected watches also suffered from overheating. This is no surprise, because these two things, rapid battery drain and overheating, usually go hand in hand like Penn and Teller, Lennon and McCartney, and Abbott and Costello.

An internal Apple memo says an update to exterminate the overheating and battery drain bug is “coming soon.”

An internal memo shared by Apple with Apple Authorized Service Providers was obtained from multiple sources by MacRumors. The memo states that battery drain and overheating issues affecting some Apple Watch models running watchOS 10.1 will be addressed with an “upcoming” update. The memo does not mention the cause of the problem or specify which Apple Watch models are burning while battery life melts like pounds for an Ozempic user.
Complaint Central, better known as Reddit, hosts some posts about the issue, including one from user “sherpa14k” who says: “After the latest 10.1 update, my Series 6 battery won’t charge more than 50% and drains the battery in 15 minutes approx. Anyone having similar issues after updating?” The answer is a resounding “YES!” » categorically. Check out these two reviews from owners of the Apple Watch Ultra 2 and Apple Watch Ultra 1, respectively.

Apple Support suggestion to remove all third-party apps used on Apple Watch Ultra 2

The first post, from a Reddit user named “Hatsushira,” is rather shocking considering Apple says the Apple Watch Ultra2 can get up to 36 hours of battery life and double that in low power mode. The message says: “My colleague’s Ultra 2 also has absurd battery drain. Entire battery went from 100% to 10% in 3 hours.” An Apple Watch Ultra user with the username “TigerTami” wrote: “My Ultra 1 did the same thing yesterday! Today it dropped 28% in 2 hours. I hope it will soon to be corrected.”

Until the update to fix this bug is released, Apple Support told another Reddit user experiencing this issue to uninstall and reinstall Weather, turn off Location Services for Weather, and disable important locations. Another Apple support representative asked an Apple Watch Series 7 and Series 9 user whose batteries were dead after three hours of use to delete all third-party apps.

Removing all third party apps did the trick for one Apple Watch Ultra2 user who says that once these apps were uninstalled, his Ultra 2’s battery life returned to normal. Whether you want to go through the process of removing all third-party apps with a bug fix in progress depends on your ability to wait for the software update to arrive while only using about three hours a day.

October 25 was the release date for watchOS 10.1. It was made available to the Apple Watch Series 4 and later and requires the user to have the iPhone XS or later running iOS 17. Apple notes that the watchOS 10.2 developer beta has been released, but the release notes don’t mention any sort of fix for overheating and battery drain at this time.
