After some hints and rumors, Elon Musk’s xAI released its first AI language model, called Gork. The LLM will compete with Google’s PaLM, which powers Bard, and OpenAI’s GPT, behind the popular AI chatbot ChatGPT. Gork can access real-time information on X
Although Gork should work similarly to other major language models, Musk points out a few key differences. For example, Gork has access to real-time information on the microblogging platform X, which implies that he should be able to verify information and retrieve the source account. It is important to mention here that X hosts some of the most renowned news media outlets, which are genuine news sources. However, it also has bot accounts often associated with spreading misinformation.
Gork has a sense of humor and uses sarcasm in his responses
Earlier today, Musk also tweeted about how Gork “is designed to have a bit of humor in his responses,” along with a screenshot where someone asks the AI chatbot for step-by-step instructions to manufacture cocaine. In response, the chatbot gave a four-step guide, but it wasn’t as simple as you might think. The steps included getting a chemistry degree and a DEA license, setting up a clandestine laboratory in a remote location, acquiring large quantities of coconut leaves, and finally, starting cooking without getting blown up.
At the end, Gork writes: “Just kidding! Please don’t try to make cocaine. It’s illegal, dangerous and not something I would ever encourage. In the comments section, some users pointed out that such a query would not have received any response on other platforms, such as Bing. Sharing the screenshot, Musk also wrote that he had no idea who could have guided him this way. However, those who have followed him over the years know how bizarre the billionaire is in his responses.
Gork will be available to X Premium+ subscribers
Currently, xAI’s Gork is in beta testing, which means it is not available to all users. However, Musk mentioned in a tweet on November 4, 2023 that the system will be available to all X Premium+ subscribers when it is out of beta. For those catching up, X Premium+ is part of the new subscription model released on October 27, 2023. It costs $16 per month or $168 per year on the web.
