Apple Could Manufacture iPhone 17 In India Ahead Of The 2025 Release: Ming-Chi Kuo،

Over the years, Apple has moved a significant portion of its manufacturing lineup to India. The Cupertino-based tech giant has been assembling its smartphones in India since 2017, when it began production of the iPhone SE. Last year, Apple began manufacturing the iPhone 14 in the country shortly after its global launch. However, in a few years, the company could start manufacturing a new iPhone in India well before its launch.

12 to 14 percent of iPhones are made in India

Well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says in an article on Medium that 12-14% of global iPhone shipments are manufactured in India. Additionally, Apple’s partner Foxconn manufactures around 75-80% of the country’s units. Kuo expects the proportion of iPhones made in India to increase to 20-25% by 2024.

iPhone 17 production could start sooner

Kuo also says that the new product introduction for the standard iPhone 17 will begin in India in 2H24. Since the classic iPhone is the simplest to make, it should avoid any complications initially. This will be the first time the company has started developing a new iPhone outside of China.

Collaboration with Tata to help Apple grow in the region

Since Apple partnered with Tata (which acquired Winstron’s iPhone production lines in the country), the company can strengthen its relationship with the Indian government. This in turn will have a positive impact on the company’s operations in India and contribute to its growth in the years to come.

By next year, iPhone production by Foxconn in Zhengzhou and Taiyuan, China, could decline by 25 to 45 percent and 75 to 85 percent, respectively. This is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to reduce its dependence on China and move production of its products outside the region.
