‘Apple is inferior’ and other reasons why iPhone 15 is causing a stir in China for the wrong reasons،
Chinese social media site Weibo is full of scathing comments about Apple’s latest smartphone, the iPhone 15.
iPhone15 shipments in China during the release month were 6% lower than the iPhone 14, according to market research GfK, reported by Bloomberg.
Business Insider reports that messages on the
iPhone15 have garnered more than 100 million views on Weibo, with many consumers in the world’s largest smartphone market criticizing the new series as disappointing.
It’s not that Huawei is superior, it’s that Apple is inferior. If it were you, would you upgrade to the iPhone 15 just to get USB C charging?”
Although many users are unimpressed that Apple took so long to move to USB-C, others have criticized it for being very expensive, while still offering nearly the same features than comparable phones from Xiaomi, Oppo and Huawei.
Other than Apple’s software, everything else is worse. Their prices are so much higher. Today, Huawei, Xiaomi and Oppo are just as good, if not better, than Apple. »
And speaking of Huawei, the company appears to be making a comeback and this appears to have contributed to the drop in demand for the iPhone15.
The Chinese company recently surprised the Western world by introducing the Mate 60
Pro, a flagship phone with a local 7nm chip and 5G connectivity. The phone is doing extremely well in China and within months of its launch, it has helped Huawei increase its shipments by 37% over last year in the country, according to Counterpoint Research. Meanwhile, Apple reported double-digit growth in the third quarter of 2023 in China.
Huawei was the only company that posed a threat to Apple in China before U.S. sanctions crippled its ability to produce high-end phones. It’s no surprise that its regular return would become a problem for Apple.
The Mate 60 Pro is not the only smartphone offered by the iPhone15 is however compared to. Some people don’t see a compelling enough reason to upgrade from their current phone, which serves them just fine.
Even my 5 year old Xiaomi Redmi K20 Pro still works well. It doesn’t hang down and when I’m away I don’t need to carry a portable battery. What do you do with your Apple phones? ”
Many users are disappointed that not much has changed between the iPhone 13 and 15 and they both have the same refresh rate.
There is not a big difference between the iPhone 13 and 15. The camera improvement is not big. The batteries are just as small. Charging still takes so long. The telephone signal is weak. There is no need to upgrade”
An iPhone isn’t cheap. Apple has reaped huge profits from its iPhones. Buying an iPhone is essentially giving Americans money.”
Although you might be tempted to say that iPhone15 is one of the best smartphones on the market and the lack of enthusiasm displayed by Chinese consumers could be rooted in nationalism, it is worth pointing out that Apple’s most recent phones have also been criticized by consumers in other regions of the world for many of the same reasons.
Apple has recently found itself caught in the crossfire of the rivalry between America and China. Some Chinese government officials are no longer allowed to use the iPhone.
China accounted for 18% of Apple’s revenue in 2022 and in the fourth quarter of 2022, the iPhone accounted for a quarter of smartphone sales in China. It goes without saying that
China is a vital market for Apple, as CEO Tim Cook’s recent visit to China demonstrated.
