The 7thth The annual edition of Indian Mobile Congress 2023 was held from 27th at 29th October. The event attracted many participants and visitors who were passionate about technology and keenly interested in what the future holds. IMC is a mega-event that showcases upcoming trends and innovations in telecommunications, media and technology.

IMC 2023 saw dignitaries like Akash Ambani, Sunil Bharti Mittal, Kumar Mangalam Birla and honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi attending the event. It was held at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi and the theme was ‘Global Digital Innovation’.

1. PM Modi inaugurated the event

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed India’s achievements in 5G. According to the Prime Minister, India surprised the world with the rollout of 5G last year and the country did not stop there but worked to make 5G accessible to everyone. India has developed 4 lakh 5G base stations that cover over 97% of the population. Mobile broadband speed in India increased three times and the country went from 118th post at 43rd position in terms of speed. PM Modi also added that India aims to become a leader in the 6G space as well.

2. Global participation in IMC 2023

Although the Indian Mobile Congress was an Indian event, it also saw global participation. This year, it welcomed over a million attendees from 22 countries, including 5,000 CEO-level delegates, 230 exhibitors, 400 startups and more. These participants benefit from a platform for networking, collaboration and knowledge sharing within the global community.

3. 100 5G labs across India

One of the first big announcements was the creation of 100 5G labs in India to encourage students, faculty, startups and MSMEs to work on 5G in areas like healthcare, agriculture, manufacturing. , education, etc. The laboratories will be set up in academic institutions in states like Andhra Pradesh, Manipur, Telangana, Delhi, UP, etc. Some names of institutions have also been announced including IIT Guwahati, Delhi Technological University, Jamia Hamdard University, etc.

4. Reliance Jio Glass

We have been hearing about the Jio Glass for a while now and finally, Reliance introduced its Jio Glass at IMC 2023. It is a mixed reality headset that can be used for immersive video conferencing, virtual meetings , education, watching videos and gaming.

5. JioSpace fiber reliability

Jio exposed its emergency response communications system. Reliance Jio introduced India’s first satellite Gigabit broadband service, capable of providing high-speed Internet access in previously inaccessible geographies. Jio also demonstrated how they offer internet to 4 remote locations: Gir Gujarat, Korba Chattisgarh, Nabrangpur Odissa and Jorhat Assam. There is no update on when the services will be rolled out.

6. Nokia presented 6G

Tech giant Nokia has revealed its vision for the future of wireless communication, which involves using 6G to create situational awareness capable of detecting and interacting with the environment without compromising privacy . Its 6G network will act like radar, remotely detecting objects, people and movements around corners. Nokia also demonstrated its smart and secure rail networks, which use a private wireless network to support advanced signaling and train control systems. It will enable faster, safer and greener transportation for Indian commuters.

7. Ericsson’s RedCap solution

Ericsson introduced its new radio access network software solution, RedCap, which aims to simplify and extend the battery life of 5G devices while delivering higher data rates and speeds. RedCap was designed for devices such as smartwatches, wearables, industrial sensors, and AR/VR devices that require low power consumption and high performance. Ericsson has partnered with Airtel and Qualcomm to showcase the capabilities of RedCap devices on the Airtel 5G network.

8. Aspire and Robo Blitz

Two new initiatives aimed at promoting entrepreneurship and skills development among young innovators and engineers have been launched. Aspire is a start-up program that highlights the potential of emerging technologies in the telecommunications and digital fields. Robo Blitz is a Robo Wars event that challenges participants to show off their robotics skills.

9. Airtel to solve network problems with AI

Airtel’s A-SON, also known as AI-based self-optimization network solution, detects anomalies and resolves them with AI without any manual intervention. The solution is designed in a way to predict the issues that Airtel networks will face in the future and ensure that the team resolves them beforehand. The solution is completely designed by Airtel and was first introduced in March 2022.

Airtel also demonstrated how its Xstream AirFiber works in areas where it does not have fiber or broadband connectivity. The service is available in regions like Ghaziabad, Faridabad and Noida.

10. Vi at IMC 2023

In addition to showcasing live 5G experiences, Vi showcased various use cases including business, consumer and community development, highlighting the vast potential of the technology and 5G.
