iPhone 16 could feature an extra hardware button & relocated mmWave antenna،

It seems like all the iPhone 16s are circulating in the rumors. If the latest speculations are to be believed, the iPhone 16 series will add a hardware button on the sides. This comes from an Instant Digital leaker from Weibo according to whom, there is a good chance that the iPhone 16 models will include an additional button on the sides. Apple is likely to move the mmWave antenna to the left to accommodate this as well.

iPhone 16 gets an extra button

Instant Digital says the new button might be called the “Capture Button,” but there’s no update on what function the button is supposed to perform. It will be capacitive and will be on the right side of the frame, below the power button. Being capacitive means it will work like a button and respond but without any mechanical tactile sensation.

Still, this extra button is expected to arrive across the entire iPhone 16 lineup, meaning 16 and 16 Plus users won’t have to feel any different, at least when it comes to an extra button (many other specs will remain distinct between the Pro and non-Pro models).

Speculation suggests that the mmWave antenna that iPhones use in the US for 5G will move from right to left. The antenna will now be located just below the volume buttons. The folks at PhoneArena have broken a pun on the Antennagate issue that the iPhone 4 (2010) went through after launching with antennas on the left.

Another update concerns the Action button with which the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max arrived. With next year’s iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max/Ultra, the action button will likely be aligned with the frame and switch to solid-state buttons instead of mechanical buttons. For those who aren’t, speculation about Apple upgrading to solid-state buttons has been circulating for ages and it looks like it will finally come to an end with the iPhone 16 Pro series becoming a reality.

iPhone 16 series release date

There are no surprises here. Apple usually releases its iPhones every year in September or October. The iPhone 15 series debuted on September 12 while the iPhone 14 series launched on September 7. Likewise, the iPhone 16 series is very likely to arrive with a tetraprism periscope lens in September 2024 or October 2024 given the supply chain challenges and delays it could introduce.
