Epic vs Google lawsuit: court date is now set for November 6،

Epic Games (the maker of Fortnite) has had a major lawsuit saga with Apple over the past couple of years, but the gaming company hasn’t stopped there. It also involves Google and Match Group, and the lawsuit now has a court date, reports Engadget.

Epic Games and Match Group lawsuit against Google: hearing date set for November 6

The lawsuit focuses on unfair fees and requirements for in-app purchases, much like Epic’s previous lawsuit against Apple. Epic Games and Match Group are now accusing the Mountain View tech giant of abusing its control over the distribution of Android applications. This lawsuit joins a similar one filed by 39 attorneys general, and there is also a class action against clients demanding $4.7 billion in damages.

Epic first sued Google in 2020, a similar scenario to Apple’s case, after Google removed Fortnite from the Play Store (just like Apple did). On the other hand, Match Group (which is an online dating service company) sued Google last year over “exorbitant” store fees. Both companies consolidated their arguments, and last fall they expanded their allegations.

They now claim that Google also pays hundreds of dollars to top developers to keep their apps on the Play Store.

Google denies having abused its power. The Mountain View company claims that fees are necessary for the Play Store to be maintained and invested. Google also emphasized that developers are not prohibited from launching third-party stores and believes that the Play Store is in fair competition.

As with any trial of this magnitude, it may take a long time before a final decision is made. We will keep you posted!
