Gaming smartphone maker ASUS is gearing up for its next-generation gaming series dubbed ASUS ROG Phone 8. The Taiwanese giant has already started teasing some of its specifications, starting with the almighty Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC as the giant has confirmed the chipset.

ASUS confirms ROG Phone 8 chipset

Comprising of three models – ROG Phone 8, ROG Phone 8 Pro and ROG Phone 8 Ultimate, the upcoming gaming series will have the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC under the hood. Built on a 4nm node by TSMC, the chipset has a maximum clock speed of 3.3 GHz.

It was recently spotted on AnTuTu crossing the 2 million point mark, proving that it is 20% more efficient and 30% more powerful than its predecessor – the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. The chipset uses Cortex-X4 cores, Cortex-A720 and Cortex-A520, which helped it achieve an increase of over 36% in benchmark results before we even got our hands on the chipset.

It’s not just ASUS, but many smartphone makers have already lined up their flagship device that will use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC under the hood. Xiaomi has already won the title of “first smartphone maker to use the chipset” with the Xiaomi 14 series, while the AnTuTu leak of the OnePlus 12 also gave us over 2 million points on AnTuTu. The OnePlus 12 is expected to arrive in China later this year, followed by a launch early next year.

Realme GT5 Pro, iQOO 12 series, Xiaomi Redmi K70 series, and Samsung Galaxy S24 series, among others, are also set to launch their flagship phones powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC.

As for the ASUS ROG Phone 8 release date, we don’t have any official information about it. The ROG Phone 7 arrived in mid-April, which means we could see the ROG Phone 8 around the same time next year. Unless ASUS decides to follow in the footsteps of its competitors who are bringing forward the launch dates of their respective flagship devices.
