Asus is practically one of the few companies still taking its place gaming phones seriously and, contrary to some rumors that surfaced last August that it would discontinue its Asus ROG phone line, the manufacturer is preparing for the next version of the Asus ROG Phone 8.

On the subject of the ROG Phone 8, Asus officially announced that the upcoming mobile gaming beast will come with – surprise, surprise – Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, Qualcomm’s latest and greatest flagship Android silicon (via GizmoChina). Well, to be frank, Asus didn’t specify that it was talking about the ROG Phone 8 per se, but the promotional message says something like “coming soon gaming phone“, so there’s no need to do too much guesswork here. Judging by a recent story that a Samsung official was referring to the Snapdragon 8 generation 3 would make the Galaxy S24 a new standard in gaming, even beating the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, we have high hopes for the gaming performance of the Asus ROG Phone 8 with this new chipset.

In fact, at least according to Qualcomm websiteTHE Snapdragon 8 generation 3 expected to have 25% faster graphics rendering (plus 25% improved GPU power efficiency), 30% faster CPU, and be 20% more power efficient compared to Gen 2. The golden feature of modern graphics , hardware-accelerated ray tracing, is also 40% better with this new chipset. Last but not least, the most improved of all is the AI engine, which now runs 98% faster.

All this, plus the dedicated gaming features we’re used to with ROG phones, such as ultrasonic buttons that give strong haptic feedback, should make the Asus ROG Phone 8 series one of the best gaming phones for 2023, without a doubt.

Typically, Asus ROG Phones are released in the spring, so there’s still some time before we get any closer to the ROG Phone 8 announcement, which means that as far as other details go, we should see some and hear more in the coming months, especially in early 2024.
