Elon Musk Announces New Monetization Rule For Creators On X،

Since taking over Twitter, Elon Musk has made a host of changes to how microblogging works and the features it offers. From massive layoffs to changing the platform’s name, the billionaire continues to experiment with X to determine what works best. In an attempt to mitigate the spread of fake news, Musk announced new rules for the monetization program.

Posts marked with community ratings are no longer eligible for monetization

Elon Musk on October 29, 2023 announced a “slight change” in creator monetization on the author will not get a share of the revenue from the post. The idea behind this, according to Musk, is to prioritize “accuracy over sensationalism.”

Shortly after Musk tweeted the change, users criticized it, saying that a group of people can easily target someone even if they post something factually correct. A user who goes by the name @simonateba writes that Community Notes is being misused to target conservative accounts and therefore demonetizing posts with notes may not be a good idea.

In a follow-up tweet, Musk also mentioned that attempts to deliberately correct someone’s post or “use community ratings as a weapon to demonetize people” wouldn’t work, because X runs on code open source. The new rule discourages misinformation or false information about X.

What are community ratings on X?

Community Notes are a crowdsourced method of verifying the accuracy of a tweet. Basically, this allows other X users to correct information or add context to a tweet. If enough contributors find the same remark useful, X displays it with the post so users don’t believe or spread misinformation. Users can learn more about the program and register on the platform’s official help page.
