Hwang Hee-chan scored the equalizer as Wolverhampton Wanderers drew 2-2 with Newcastle United on Saturday, but the hosts suffered a major blow when striker Pedro Neto was carried off on a rain-swept Molineux pitch due to a hamstring injury.

Newcastle, who extended their unbeaten streak to six matches, are sixth in the Premier League with 17 points after 10 matches. Gary O’Neil’s Wolves, unbeaten in their last five games, occupy 12th place with 12 points.

Hwang equalized in the 71st minute with a goal that Newcastle could have avoided had goalkeeper Nick Pope caught a free kick rather than punched it, redemption for the Korean striker after his rash first-half tackle led to a penalty for the visitors.

Callum Wilson scored twice for Newcastle before the break, the first in the 22nd minute when goalkeeper Jose Sa crashed into a teammate and let the ball slip away. Wilson pounced with a shot which was blocked by Toti Gomes before the 31-year-old fired home with an overhead kick.

Newcastle were unable to maintain their dominance in the match despite taking the lead twice.

Mario Lemina equalized for Wolves when he outplayed Kieran Trippier to head in Neto’s corner – the first goal Newcastle have conceded from set pieces in the Premier League this season.

Wilson restored the Magpies’ lead just before the break after Hwang was penalized for his tackle on Fabian Schar, a decision which left Wolves fans roaring in disapproval. Sa got a hand on Wilson’s penalty, but the ball dribbled away.
