iOS 17.2 Beta adds one more function to Action button،

The iPhone 15 Pro was revealed with 10 customization options for its new action button, nine of which have been rolled out, leaving one “coming later.” It turns out that the remaining customization option was rolled out with the new iOS 17.2 beta, and at the same time, Apple is also testing the ability to remotely install updated software on sealed iPhones.

iOS 17.2 beta is rolled out

Starting with iOS 17.2, iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max users can assign “Translate” as one of their action button tasks. You will find this “Translate” option between voice memo and magnifying glass in the Settings >> Action button section.

What the feature does, which should be obvious, is translate conversations by pressing the Action button and display the Dynamic Island translations. Yes, there is no need to launch the application specifically for translation, everything you need is available and neatly placed on Dynamic Island itself. The “Translate” app has existed on iPhones since iOS 14 in 2020 and uses Neural Engine for on-device processes and works both online and offline.

That being said, there are now 10 action button tasks you can do on iPhone 15 Pro and later. Here is the list.

  • Silent mode: Enable/disable silent mode
  • To focus: enable/disable specific focus
  • Camera: Open the Camera app to take photos, videos, portraits, videos, etc.
  • Translate: Yes, that’s the one we mentioned earlier, he pretty much does translations from one language to another.
  • Magnifying glass : It launches the Magnifier application.
  • Voice memo: Enables the ability to quickly record a voice memo.
  • Shortcut: Turns the action button into a hotkey to access any application with one click.
  • Accessibility: Access your suite of accessibility features with this option.
  • No action: As you can see, it doesn’t do anything.

iOS 17.2 beta testing remote software updates

Starting with iOS 17.2 beta, Apple is testing the ability to remotely install software updates on sealed iPhones. But what does this mean? When you buy a phone, it necessarily has the latest software update available at the time of manufacture and may not be the latest version currently available, right?

With iOS 17.2 beta, Apple is working on the ability to remotely install the latest software patches on sealed iPhones purchased from Apple Stores. This means that when a buyer takes the phone out of the box, they should have the latest version of iOS. Apple is reportedly testing a pad-like device that will be used to turn on the iPhone wirelessly while updating the latest software and turning it off. It sounds like space technology, but that’s what Apple is doing right now and the system should be available in stores by the end of this year if all goes well.

This benefits both Apple and customers because the iPhone syncs with the latest iOS version available at the time of purchase. This will help the Cupertino-based giant solve the PR dilemma of phones unable to boot during setup or unable to transfer data from old iPhones, etc.[Check out: iOS 17.2 Beta Release Notes]
