The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY) is a housing initiative launched by the Government of India in 2015 to provide affordable housing to all citizens by 2022. The program targets the shortage of affordable housing in the country, in urban areas as rural, by offering financial assistance to those who cannot afford to pay for their housing. Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) Scheme

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY) is an Indian government initiative launched in 2015 to ensure housing for all Indian citizens by 2022. It aims to address the shortage of affordable housing in India, particularly in urban areas, providing financial assistance to those who cannot afford to purchase a home.

PMAY Highlights

  • Its main objective is to provide affordable housing options to all Indian citizens by 2022, on 75th year of Independence.
  • The program targets economically weaker sections, low-income groups and middle-income groups across India.
  • Eligible individuals can receive home loan subsidies, direct financial assistance for house construction, on-site rehabilitation of slum dwellers, and credit-linked subsidies for middle-income groups.
  • PMAY is being implemented through a combination of central and state government funding as well as private sector participation.

2 main types of PMAY

The diagram has been divided into 2 parts-

(A) PMAY-G (For rural areas)– Formerly known as Indira Awas Yojna, PMAY-G was renamed in 2016. As the name suggests, it focuses on providing affordable and accessible housing to eligible people in rural India (excluding Chandigarh and Delhi). The state and central government share the costs in the proportion of 40:60 for the plain regions and 10:90 for the North-East and Hilly regions.

(B) PMAY-U (for urban areas)– It focuses on urban areas of India and includes 4,331 cities. It was implemented in 3 stages. The first stage spanning from April 2015 to March 2017, during which the government aimed to cover 100 cities in different states and UTs. The second stage was from April 2017 to March 2019, when 200 more cities and UTs were added. The final stage covers the remaining cities that were not included in stages 1 and 2.

PMAY Eligibility Criteria

  • The applicant must be a citizen of India.
  • The applicant must not own a permanent house in his or his family member’s name in any part of India.
  • A woman’s name must appear on the deed or property papers, either as the sole owner or as a joint owner. If there is no woman in the family, this can be canceled.
  • Home loans for the renovation or extension of an existing property must be completed within 36 months of receipt of the first loan payment.
  • The annual income of the applicant should not exceed INR 3 lakh per annum for economically weaker section, INR 3 to 6 lakh for low income group, INR 6 lakh to 12 lakh for middle income group and 12 to 18 lakh INR for middle income group. income group (category 2).
  • The applicant must not have received housing assistance from a government program.
  • He must be the head of the family and not over 60 years old.

Apply for PMAY online

  • Visit the official PMAY website and click on the “Citizen Rating” option under the Menu tab.
  • Enter your Aadhaar number.
  • Complete the application form with all the necessary details.
  • Double-check the information before submitting the form.
  • Upon submission, you will get a unique application number. Save it for future use.
  • Download the completed application form.
  • Submit the form along with required documents to a nearby CSC office or financial institution offering PMAY.

Eligible candidates can obtain and fill up forms in this regard available at the Common Service Centers (CSC). They have to pay a nominal fee of Rs. 25 plus GST on purchasing the PMAY subsidy form. CSCs are the gateway to availing essential utility services in rural India.

1. Use Aadhaar card

  • Access the PMAY website page
  • Click on the Aadhaar card. Enter the Aadhaar number in the given box. Enter the Aadhaar number of the person whose name you have requested for PMAY.
  • Fill the name according to Aadhaar.
  • Check the box to indicate that you agree to share Aadhaar details for authentication.
  • Press check.

2. Use of name, father’s name and mobile number

  • Access the PMAY website page.
  • Click on the first option i.e. by name, father’s name and mobile number.
  • Enter the details.
  • Submit and you will see the status of the request.

3. Using the Review ID

  • Visit the PMAY website page
  • Click on 2sd option, by assessment ID.
  • Enter and submit it to see the status.

4. Using the CLSS tracker

  • Access the PMAY website page
  • On the home page, there is a section to enter the application ID. Enter it and click get status.
  • You will get an OTP and your mobile, enter the OTP on the screen.
  • The status will be displayed to you.
