Oppo India has launched the Oppo A79 5G, a mid-range phone featuring a dual rear camera setup, a massive battery with support for fast charging, and a large display for consuming content. It will be available in two colors starting October 28, 2023. Here’s everything you need to know about the Oppo A789 5G, including design, specifications, and availability.
Design Oppo A79 5G
The Oppo A79 5G features a dual rear camera setup recessed into a rectangular bump on the rear panel. We can also see the company branding towards the bottom. The right edge of the smartphone features the volume rockers and power button, while the left edge houses the SIM card tray. Users benefit from the speaker tray, USB-C port, and 3.5mm headphone jack on the bottom column.

The Oppo A79 5G sports a 6.72-inch FHD+ Sunlight display with a 90Hz refresh rate. It features the company’s All-Day AI Eye Comfort technology for continuous eye protection and a safe viewing experience. The press release mentions that the Oppo A79 5G has Widevine L1 certification for viewing HD content on Amazon Prime Video and Netflix. For a better multimedia experience, the phone comes with stereo speakers offering surround sound.
What is unique is that the smartphone includes an Ultra Volume mode that increases the speaker volume up to 300% and the earpiece volume up to 200%. However, it remains to be seen how this feature shows up in real-world use and whether it has any impact on sound quality. The Oppo smartphone also features noise and echo reduction for voice calls and comes with a headphone jack.
The smartphone comes with MediaTek 8200 SoC
Under the hood, the Oppo A79 5G runs on the MediaTek 8200 SoC, which comes with two 2.2 GHz ARM Cortex-A76 performance cores and six 2.0 GHz ARM Cortex-A55 efficiency cores.
The chipset comes with 8GB of physical RAM (expandable up to 16GB using RAM expansion technology) and 128GB of storage, which can be expanded up to 1TB using a card External SD. Out of the box, the mid-range smartphone runs ColorOS 13, based on Android 13.
On the rear panel, the smartphone has a 50 MP Samsung ISOCELL JN1 sensor, which takes 12.5 MP photos (using four-pixel binning). Other camera features include an Ultra Night mode, Portrait mode, and a High Resolution mode for capturing 50MP photos. Then there’s a 2MP portrait sensor, which makes depth sensing easier.
On the front, users get an 8MP punch-hole selfie camera. The Oppo A79 5G features a 5,000mAh battery with support for 33W SUPERVOOC wired charging that optimizes battery cells to 51% in around 30 minutes.
Oppo A79 5G price and availability
The Oppo A79 5G costs Rs. 9,999. 19,999 in India, and it will be available from October 28, 2023 via the Oppo Store, Flipkart, Amazon, and other outlets.
Interested customers can avail cashback of up to Rs. 9,999. 4,000 and no-cost EMI for up to nine months using ICICI, SBI, Kotak, IDFC First or Bank of Baroda cards. The smartphone is available in two color options: Glowing Green and Mystery Black.
