Xiaomi recently announced its Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 powered smartphone, the Xiaomi 14 series. The series includes the Xiaomi 14 and the Xiaomi 14 Pro. Although these phones are only available in their home countries, a tipster posted a camera comparison between them online, suggesting that the Xiaomi 14 Pro beats the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
Xiaomi 14 Pro with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 offers better HDR
Known informant Ice universe recently shared two photos from his X account (formerly known as Twitter), in which he shows two photos of the same scene, clicked by the Xiaomi 14 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. Captioning both photographs, the tipster writes that “the HDR of the Xiaomi 14 Pro’s main cameras is too powerful, so it’s easy to kill the Samsung S23 Ultra,” implying that the former handles the dynamic range of the image.
The photos depict a window and a table on the side. From what it looks like, the Xiaomi 14 Pro managed to dim the brightest part of the image (the light coming in through the window) while retaining detail in the darkest part (where there is Table). The photo from the phone clearly shows that there is a bottle, as well as a thermal food wrapper, on the table. However, the Galaxy S23 Ultra darkens this part as the items kept on the table are barely visible.
X users prefer Galaxy S23 Ultra photo
The images show that the Xiaomi 14 Pro handled dynamic range better than the Galaxy S23 Ultra. However, several people in the comments section indicated that they still preferred the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s photo, mainly because it depicts the scene better. Twitter users prefer Samsung’s photo because it accurately depicts shadows and highlights. One user even shows the enlarged version of these images, pointing out that the Xiaomi 14 Pro has not retained any details in any particular part, as seen below.
Both phones come with a different processor
It’s also important to understand that the Xiaomi 14 Pro comes with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, with an improved image signal processor that should be better than that of 2022’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2-powered Galaxy S23 Ultra. Therefore, even though these are the company’s latest flagships, there is a generational gap in processing power, which gives a slight advantage to the Xiaomi 14 Pro.
Those interested in knowing the camera specs should note that the Xiaomi 14 Pro comes with a 50 MP (f/1.4, 23mm) primary sensor, while the Galaxy S23 Ultra has a primary sensor 200 MP (f/1.7, 24 mm). To conclude, enthusiasts and potential buyers should wait until the Xioami 14 Pro becomes widely available and undergoes rigorous testing for all photography and video scenarios. Although the Galaxy S23 Ultra is available worldwide, Xiaomi has announced the global availability of the Xiaomi 14 Pro.
