Rooney unfazed by Birmingham fans’ boos: Not an issue for me،

New Birmingham City manager Wayne Rooney says he is not worried after his side were booed in their first home game in charge following a 2-0 defeat to Hull City on Wednesday.

Rooney left his post at MLS side DC United to join Birmingham earlier this month, but they have lost both games since he became the new boss.

Birmingham were in sixth position in the Championship before Rooney’s arrival and after consecutive defeats they slipped to 12th place.

Rooney acknowledged the angry reaction from fans and said the team needed to improve in future matches.

It’s part of football,” Rooney told a post-match press conference. You have to win football games to change that. As I said yesterday, the previous coach was very popular here and did a good job.

“It’s what you want, what you want in terms of, do you want to be where the club has been for 10 years or do you want to move forward? And sometimes there’s a period of adaptation while we ask players to do it differently. “It’s part of the game. It’s part of my job. It is not a problem for me.”

A section of Birmingham supporters were unhappy after Rooney replaced former manager John Eustace.

Eustace helped Birmingham avoid relegation last season in difficult circumstances caused by two failed takeover bids and the looming threat of a points deduction due to a breach of EFL regulations.

Rooney revealed he had a frank discussion with the team after the match and said some players were taking time to adapt to his style of play.

Asked if any players had told him they weren’t comfortable with his style of play, Rooney replied: “Yes. It’s my job now to deal with that and fix that. .

“I have to find a way to keep them comfortable while trying to implement the way I want to play.”
