Google, how dare you? How dare you create a screen twice as energy efficient as the Pixel 7 Pro?

Besides Greta Thunberg, anyone lusting after the Pixel 8 Pro will be happy to discover that it’s considerably more power efficient in terms of screen brightness, leaving Samsung and Apple behind – for now.

Currently the 2400 nits screen renders the Pixel 8 Pro the phone with the brightest screen on a traditional phone in the United States (via 9to5Google). According to further research and testing, it is also very energy efficient compared to Pixel 7 Pro.

As you can see in the post from Dylan Raga of XDA-Developers above, the Pixel 8 Pro produces it Pixel 7 ProThe maximum brightness of “using only 47% of the power”. A test shows that the new display only needs 3W of power to achieve 960 nits, less than half the power it consumes. Pixel 7 Pro necessary, because its screen would consume 6.4 W of power at the same 960 nits.

The show doesn’t stop there, in fact the display in the Pixel 8 Pro is actually even more energy efficient than the screens of the iPhone 14 Pro Max and Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. To achieve 960 nits in this test, Apple and Samsung needed power closer to 4W compared to the Pixel’s 3W draw, and the Pixel’s screen continued to be brighter, using less power as the brightness increased.

It’s interesting to see Samsung’s response in the Galaxy S24 series. There are already rumors that they will see Google’s 2,400 nits and up the ante to 2,500 nits. According to the information available so far, the entire Galaxy S24 lineup is expected to feature LTPO and M13 displays and offer an impressive peak brightness of 2,500 nits.

Meanwhile, rumors say that OnePlus will unveil a 3,000 nits display any day now.
