Google Photos is on a roll with several new features recently debuting. First of all, it is now said to automatically save RAW images, giving users a seamless experience. Additionally, a handy video tool is in the works, making it easier to create highlight videos to share with friends and family. But that’s not all: another interesting update is on the horizon. Google Photos is gearing up for a Photo Stack feature, aimed at helping you organize similar-looking photos. The AssembleDebug Code Detective (via Android Authority) discovered evidence of this new feature in version 59 of the application.

When Photo Stack goes live, Google Photos will take the lead in grouping together images that share similarities, especially those captured in close succession. According to the tipster, users will have the option to turn photo stacks on or off via a setting in the Google Photos preferences screen.

Once a stack of photos is formed, users will be able to edit it or change the first choice. There might also be a way to efficiently manage multiple photo stacks. While there’s no official word on when the feature will release, it’s reassuring to see Google constantly thinking about ways to improve the Photos app.

Google Photos is a photo and video storage and sharing service that offers automatic backup, smart organization, search, easy sharing and editing tools. It’s a free service with 15GB of storage and available on a variety of devices as long as you have a Google account.

Google Photos regularly receives minor updates like this and every now and then major updates, one of the latest being the Google Photos app supporting Ultra HDR.
