Honda Motor and Mitsubishi Corp, two major players in the automobile industry, have joined forces to explore untapped markets for electric vehicle (EV) batteries. This strategic collaboration reflects the global shift towards battery-powered cars, highlighting the industry’s challenge in sustainable battery disposal, a crucial aspect that must be addressed.

Honda And Mitsubishi Collaboration

Honda CEO Toshihiro Mibe emphasized in a statement that the company is not only focused on selling electric vehicles (EVs), but is taking a proactive stance on energy management. This approach involves using electric vehicle batteries as a viable energy source, demonstrating Honda’s commitment to sustainable practices.

As stated in their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the companies aim to create a comprehensive business enterprise. This effort includes moving batteries from Honda’s mini-EV models to stationary energy storage solutions and implementing battery usage monitoring.

Honda is expected to begin sales of its EV model in Japan in 2024. Additionally, the collaboration will involve joint efforts to develop “smart charging” technology, capable of optimizing the timing of EV charging for greater efficiency, and the “Vehicle to Grid”. system, allowing the supply to the network of electricity stored in electric vehicles.

According to the agreement, the collaboration between the companies aims to ultimately lead to lower electricity costs for consumers and better use of battery materials, marking an important step towards sustainable energy solutions.
