A cult piece of tech by Apple turns 22 and begs for your $350: Remember the iPod?،
Legally speaking, the iPod can drink, rent a car, gamble, get a driver’s license and go clubbing – for a year now. Launched in 2001, the world’s most famous MP3 player celebrated its 21st anniversary last year.
This year, the iPod turns 22 (what a surprise, right?) and more importantly, it can be yours again.
You just need $350.
A retailer offers it, like 9to5Mac reports – it’s included in Urban Outfitters’ “vintage retro tech” initiative.
If you’re looking for a vintage iPod mini, you’re out of luck, as they’re rumored to have sold out of their entire stock for $199 each. The iPod (4th and 5th generation) is priced at $349.99, but that could very well be done as we speak, since availability isn’t endless.
iPods were also updated to include flash storage inside the spinning hard drive that Apple was using at the time. Here is the product description for the iPod classic sold by Urban Outfitters:
First introduced in 2001, the iPod is the ultimate MP3 player, and this 5th generation (2007) device is the perfect blend of new millennium design and modern features. These iPods have been updated with an all-new battery and 128GB of flash storage so you have enough space for all your favorite albums in a faster, more robust package. Each iPod comes with an original Apple sync cable and headphones.
Although Apple has stopped marketing it, the obsession with the iPod doesn’t seem to have gone away – at least not for everyone, as those sell out quickly.
In 2017, Apple pulled the plug on the iPod Nano and iPod Shuffle, its latest dedicated MP3 players. And even though the iPod Touch received updates as recently as 2019, the device has long ceased to be a simple MP3 player.
