Google Pixel 8a release date predictions and its pricing, features, and specs،

THE Pixel 8 The series is already out, but there’s an exciting launch on the horizon that could prove even more important for Google’s place in the smartphone market. We are talking about the upcoming Pixel 8a.

The A-series of Pixel devices have always offered great value for money, and judging by what the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro have brought, we can expect big things from the lite version that is expected to launch in spring 2024. .

We expect the Pixel 8a to inherit some interesting hardware and features from the Pixel 8 series, such as the new Tensor G3 chipset and the longest software support cycle on a consumer smartphone: seven whole years of major operating system updates.

The Pixel 8a has the potential to become one of the best budget phones of next year, so we’re very excited. In this article, we will try to organize all the news, leaks and rumors about the upcoming Pixel 8a phone in an orderly and systematic manner.

Latest news on the Pixel 8a

Pixel 8a release date

The Pixel 8a release date is still shrouded in mystery. Google likes to show off its new devices at annual events like the I/O conference in May, and the A series is usually revealed around this time. Based on the table below, we should expect the Pixel 8a to be revealed around May 2024.

Pixel 8a price

Another big unknown at the moment is the possible price of the Pixel 8a. It’s way too early even for leaks and rumors, but we can once again extrapolate the expected price of the Pixel 8a from the information we have on Pixel A-series prices over the years. If Google decides to keep prices steady, we expect the Pixel 8a to start at around $499 again, but judging by the price hike we’ve seen with the Pixel 8 series, we might also be looking at a price of $549.

Pixel 8a Name

According to the latest leaks, the Pixel 8a is codenamed “Akita”. Google has long codenamed its Pixel phones, so we’re inclined to find this rumor plausible. As for the name of the phone at launch, we don’t expect any big surprises, no XL model on the horizon, just the classic Pixel 8a.

Pixel 8a camera

We expect the Pixel 8a to sport the same dual-camera setups as its predecessor. Don’t worry, though, because Google has always built excellent computational photography algorithms into its Pixel phones, and the latest proof is a blind camera comparison, in which the Pixel 8 Pro obliterated the S23 Ultra and the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Now, we don’t expect the same powerful hardware on the Pixel 8a, but the 7a’s 64MP Quad-Bayer sensor provides a solid foundation to play with and apply the aforementioned algorithms.

Pixel 8a storage

In terms of RAM and storage, we don’t know much at the moment, but after Google increased the A-series RAM to 8GB, we don’t expect another increase anytime soon. So it’s safe to assume that the Pixel 8a will feature 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage as base options.

Pixel 8a design

Normally we wouldn’t have anything specific to share at this point, but there are two early leaks that cover the Pixel 8a’s design. One of these leaks contains some hands-on images showing the alleged Pixel 8a in a light blue color. The other notable leak comes from OnLeaks and SmartPrix, both credible sources, and offers a look at many of the Pixel 8a design renders.

Looking at both sources, it’s clear that the Pixel 8a looks undeniably similar to the Pixel, with the camera bar and overall shape of the device. What looks different is the radius of the frame and back glass, it looks quite curved. The bezels around the screen are also prominent and there is a punch-hole camera at the top center of the screen.

As for the possible colors of the Pixel 8a, we can only judge them by the leaked renders and purported hands-on images. Looking at them again, it looks like we’ll have at least two fresh color options, namely a bright blue and a peachy pink.

Pixel 8a screen

The Pixel 8a’s display specs are another unknown variable in this equation, so we can only speculate and extrapolate here. The Pixel 8a is expected to come with a 6.1-inch OLED display. Looking at leaked renders and hands-on photos, it appears the screen is flat with 2.5D glass on top (meaning slightly chamfered and rounded edges, but nothing as radical as a truly curved screen ).

We expect the resolution to be FHD-like, which isn’t surprising given that even some compact flagships are opting for this resolution these days. In terms of brightness, we expect the Pixel 8a to at least match the 800 nits we measured in our Pixel 7a review. Oh, and one more thing, the Pixel 8a will most likely support a display refresh rate of at least 90Hz, so more good news here.

Pixel 8a battery

Regarding the battery, there is no information at the moment. THE Pixel 7a comes with a 4,385 mAh battery, which is slightly lower than its predecessor, the Pixel 6a, and its 4,410 mAh cell. If rumors of a smaller, more compact Pixel 8a device are to be believed, it’s possible to see an even smaller battery, or in a best-case scenario, the same 4,385 mAh battery from the Pixel 7a. Same for fast charging, no info at the moment, we expect the same 18W fast charging via cable and the same 7.5W wireless charging on the Pixel 8a.

Pixel 8a features and software

Now, the Pixel 8a is expected to ship with Android 14 when it launches next year, and given that it will most likely sport the G3 tensor chipset, we should expect some of the great software features from the Pixel 8 series to flow up to Pixel 8a. We still don’t know if these will come with a Feature Drop or arrive at launch.

What is certain is that the Pixel 8a will retain all the features of its predecessor. Here are a few:

  • Face unlock
  • Direct my call
  • Alternative text
  • Call screen
  • Hold for me
  • Clear call
  • Waiting time
  • Live translation
  • Recorder Speaker Labels
  • Assistant voice typing
  • Voicemail transcription
  • In one look
  • Google Assistant
  • A clean Android, without bloatware

A pressing question regarding the software situation is whether or not Google will offer the same extra-long seven-year support cycle that the company launched with the Pixel 8 series. We certainly hope so!

Pixel 8a hardware and specifications

Of course, GeekBench data is easy to manipulate, so one shouldn’t rely too much on the image above, and what’s more, manufacturers often use underclocked versions of the final SoC during preliminary testing. The data sheet is rather small at the moment, but we will expand it as the launch approaches.

Pixel 8a specs overview:
  • Dimensions: 152.1 x 72.6 x 8.9 mm (Pixel 7a dimensions: 152.4 x 72.9 x 9.0 mm.)
  • Screen (diagonal): 6.1″
  • CPU: G3 tensor with Mali-G715 GPU
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Operating system : Android 14
  • Codename: Akita

Should we wait for the Pixel 8a?

If you like Android phones and want value for your money, the Pixel 8a is a no-brainer. This phone promises to redefine the budget segment with a powerful G3 tensor chipset, all the software features of a Pixel phone, and potentially the longest support cycle on a phone of this caliber. We’ll have to wait and see, but the Pixel 8a does indeed have the potential to be a very exciting phone.
