Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo has agreed to a three-year contract extension worth $186 million, his agent, Alex Saratsis, told ESPN on Monday.

The deal – which includes a player option for the 2027-28 season – commits Antetokounmpo, a two-time NBA Most Valuable Player, to the franchise for the duration of guard Damian Lillard’s contract and ends the possibility that he enters free agency in 2025.

The extension, first announced by Antetokounmpo on social media, is a further commitment by the superstar to the franchise that took him out of Greece in 2013 with the 15th overall pick and furthered his development into the one of the most dominant forces in NBA history.

Bucks general manager Jon Horst traveled to Chicago on Sunday to meet with Saratsis and discuss details of the extension that could maximize Antetokounmpo’s earnings over the course of his career. Antetokounmpo had a deadline of 11:59 p.m. ET on Monday to sign the extension.

Due to the over-38 rule in the CBA, Antetokounmpo can re-sign a short-term deal with the Bucks in 2026 and another four-year extension in 2028.

Antetokounmpo establishes himself as one of the greatest players in league history, a resume that includes a 2021 NBA Championship and Finals MVP and two-time league MVP. He averaged 31.1 points a season ago and is one of three players in history with an MVP, Finals MVP and Defensive Player of the Year award, according to research ESPN Stats & Information. Only Michael Jordan and Hakeem Olajuwon have also accomplished it.

The Bucks host the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday in their season opener.
