Danish champions FC Copenhagen travel to Old Trafford on Tuesday and Ten Hag says his side must win.

“If you lose the first two games, you have to win,” Ten Hag said at a press conference on Monday.

Ten Hag is expecting an emotional atmosphere at Old Trafford in United’s first home match since the death of 86-year-old Sir Bobby Charlton was announced on Saturday.

“It’s always special, every night at Old Trafford the fans are always behind us,” added Ten Hag. “Remember the last home game against Brentford, even when the game didn’t go our way, they stayed behind us in the tough times.

“In times of adversity, the fans are always with us and fighting. Tomorrow the passing of Sir Bobby Charlton – their hero, the legend – will certainly be more emotional.

“He’s in front of Old Trafford with Denis Law and George Best. He’s always with us and they’re always a big inspiration to us, every day, every game.”

After losing six of their first 10 games of the season, United won back-to-back games with narrow victories over Brentford and Sheffield United.

Ten Hag’s side are looking to win three games in a row for the first time since May and full-back Diogo Dalot hopes their mini-renaissance can be a springboard to help turn around their campaign.

“Every game for us is an opportunity to show that we want to build confidence and build momentum,” said Dalot, who scored the winner against Sheffield United on Saturday.

“When you win games it’s easier to gain that confidence and we showed in those games that when you don’t play the way you want you have to find a way to win. We showed that quality, we We have fantastic players who can come forward and win games and we need to use these wins to build confidence and momentum.
