Apple to bring Generative AI to all its devices as soon as next year،

Artificial intelligence (AI) has taken the world by storm as millions of people have flocked to services like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Microsoft’s Bing AI. The company that has been at the forefront of smartphones and technology has found itself running out of steam thanks to the sudden popularity of AI. I’m talking about Apple taking the lead while its competitors got their hands on a gold mine by exploring various AI-laden services. It turns out that the Cupertino-based giant is ready to make up for lost time and is working on integrating generative AI on its next big operating system – the iOS 18 launch.

Apple working on generative AI for iOS 18

Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman took to the latest edition of his Power On newsletter to discuss what’s happening in Cupertino. For now, Microsoft, Google and even Amazon are actively using AI to distribute their products to millions of users. So far, Apple is working on next year’s AI-backed iOS 18 redesign.

Although Apple was caught off guard by the sudden influx of users getting the AI services available today, Tim Cook says they have been working on generative AI technology for years. It’s best to leave these claims uncertain for now and instead you should be excited because Apple wants to make up for lost time.

Apple developed its LLM (Large Language Model) framework called Ajax to test AI. They even tried a chat internally dubbed “Apple GPT” to understand the functionality. For now, the Cupertino giant is working to analyze whether its AI can stand up to its competitors.

Craig Federighi and John Giannandrea – senior vice presidents of AI and software engineering at Apple – joined forces with Apple’s chief services officer – Eddy Cue, to manage this massive project, the cost of which is estimated at around $1 billion per year.

From what we know so far, Federighi is revamping the next-gen iOS 18 by implementing the company’s LLM in various features. LLM is trained on a trove of data that has given it prowess in terms of AI capabilities. iOS 18 is expected to gain AI features in the Siri and Messages apps beyond.

Giannandrea is also working on redesigning Siri and should be ready as early as next year. Cue is working to integrate AI into Apple apps, including Apple Music, and a suite of Apple productivity apps, including Pages.

There is an ongoing debate over whether to implement AI on-device or through the cloud, with both solutions having their pros and cons. It appears Apple could take a hybrid approach that would give the option to use on-device processing (including security and privacy) for some features, while more advanced tasks could benefit from on-device processing. on the cloud.

Overall, we are confident that Apple will launch generative AI next year, although no date is available. iOS 18 will be in beta testing early next year, which gives us a few months before we can use AI-based iOS 18 in some capacity, or even fully-fledged, until the final stage of the official launch of iOS 18.
