Facebook and Instagram are testing themed icons for their Android apps،
The most recent Alpha and Beta versions of the Facebook and Instagram apps on Android now support Android themed icons. This supports recent rumors that Meta was working on finally adding this feature to its app icons, years after it became available across the operating system.
Automatic themes, including themed icons, were introduced to Android with version 12 of the operating system. This feature extracted the dominant colors from your wallpaper and applied them throughout the interface, resulting in a more minimal and cohesive look.
Luckily, this is changing as Instagram and Facebook Icons now support automatic theming on Android in their beta and alpha apps, meaning this will likely roll out to their stable releases soon. This was spotted by users currently using these versions and reported by Mishaal Rahman on X.

This is available now in Instagram versions 307.0.0.0.42 (beta) and Facebook versions 439.0.0.0.30 (alpha) and marks a turning point in how Meta handles the implementation of new Android features . This has been evident most recently by the limited rollout of a new Instagram layout for tablets, which can now be tested using a larger screen device, such as the Google Pixel Fold on Android 14 QPR1 Beta.
For those who like to have matching icons on their Android’s home screen, supporting a matching themed icon for these two apps could finally avoid having to hide them in a folder or move them to a feed secondary (if not to hide them completely). ). Hopefully this feature will hit stable channels sooner rather than later, perhaps just in time for the next Android security update or December Pixel feature drop.
