TikTok takes a page out of Instagram’s book by working on a new collaboration feature،
Social media platforms have a weakness for “borrowing” the most popular features from each other. Remember how Reels and Shorts were essentially responses to the mega-success of TikTok? Now, it seems TikTok is eyeing Instagram territory.
The latest is that TikTok is about to roll out a “Collaboration” feature. Consider larger duos: creators can invite up to five other people for team content. Instagram launched something similar a while ago. If you've used it, you know the principle. One creator sends an invitation, the other accepts, their names appear on the post and it reaches all subscribers.
All of the above was spotted by TheSPAndroid’s AssembleDebug, who dug into the latest TikTok app code in version 34.1.15 and found plenty of clues about how the feature works. Some of the strings he found included the language below:
- You are invited to collaborate
- You will be listed as a contributor on this article. It will appear in your profile, but you will not be able to edit the message or withdraw any income it may receive.
- You will need to be invited to collaborate again if you change your mind.
- Refuse the invitation?
- Accept the invitation?
- You are now a contributor to this post
- You declined this invitation to collaborate
- You are no longer a contributor to this post
- Pending invitations
- Unable to invite or remove collaborators
- Collaborated with
- Who is in this post?
- Invite collaborators
- You can only invite 5 collaborators
- You will no longer be listed as a contributor on this post and it will be removed from your profile.
- Leave the collaboration?
- Creators who accept your invitation will be listed as contributors on your post. It will appear in their profile, but only you can edit the post and remove any income they may receive.
- A new way to create together on TikTok
- You can only invite others to collaborate a maximum of 4 times per month
- You can only invite collaborators if the privacy settings for this post are set to “Everyone.”
- You can only invite collaborators if your account is set to public
The language makes it clear how this will likely work, just like on Instagram. Creators send invitations, others accept, and everyone benefits from increased visibility. And hey, there are even options to politely opt out if you change your mind. For creators and influencers, this could be a huge boost to creative possibilities, not to mention audience figures. TikTok also imposes some limits – only five collaborators and four invites per month – probably to keep things from getting too chaotic.
