Bayern Munich's Bundesliga title hopes all but evaporated after a 2-0 home defeat to Borussia Dortmund on Saturday left them 13 points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen with seven matches remaining.

Bayern, winners of the previous 11 league titles, were ineffective in attack and their first shot on goal came late in the second half, with usually lethal striker Harry Kane missing his best chances earlier.

For Dortmund, it was their first league win in Munich for 10 years and the Ruhr club strengthened their fourth-place finish which leads into the Champions League group stage next season.

Dortmund scored on their first chance in the 10th minute after a mistake from Thomas Mueller and a superb through ball to Karim Adeyemi from Julian Brandt.

Adeyemi, fighting for a place in Germany's Euro 2024 host team, completed the fast break with a fine finish to beat goalkeeper Sven Ulreich.

Bayern goalkeeper, replacing the injured Manuel Neuer, came to the rescue several times in the second half, but was beaten in the 83rd by a powerful low shot from Julian Ryerson.

The Bavarians came closer thanks to Kane, who saw a header go narrowly wide and another shot saved by Mats Hummels.

As disappointed Bayern fans left the stadium before the end, the English striker – the league record earner of 100 million euros ($107.9 million) – put the ball into the net in the 89th, but his header was disallowed for offside.
