Glorious new renders showcase Motorola’s true Edge 50 Ultra flagship ahead of launch،
Were you disappointed to see Motorola confirm the use of a decidedly mid-range processor for what we all thought would be the company's main Android flagship in 2024? It turns out the Pro isn't the most powerful member of the Edge 50 family after all, with a top-of-the-line processor. Ultra variant leaked today as a more aptly named rival to the brand's Galaxy S24 Ultra.
While a number of questions remain surrounding some of the Edge 50 Ultra's key specifications, its use of a high-end Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset seems all but guaranteed. It was revealed last week as a slightly slower but still impressive “cousin” to the original Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 found in many of the best Android phones available today.
At first glance, the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra obviously doesn't look drastically different from the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3-powered Edge 50 Pro in a bunch of freshly leaked renders. Unsurprisingly, the rear-facing camera bump is larger on the higher-end model, which will no doubt contribute to better real-world photography.
This camera system would include three different 50 MP sensors, one of which offers periscope functionality “equivalent to approximately 5x optical zoom.” While it's clearly far too early to jump to any conclusions regarding imaging capabilities or performance in general, we certainly hope this bad boy is able to hold its own against the aforementioned Samsung super-flagship, as well as something like the OnePlus 12.
A true must-have, the Edge 50 Ultra sports a magnificent screen with a currently unknown size, very pronounced curves and crazy thin bezels. The back plate is just as eye-catching…if you don't mind the huge camera module, it looks set to attract plenty of attention with Motorola's signature vegan leather finish and a trio of colorways that includes the very the “Peach Fuzz” fashion in addition to classic (and elegant) black and a shade of beige nicknamed “Sisal”.
Expected to go on sale soon in select markets as the X50 Ultra, the high-end Motorola Edge 50 Ultra is expected to be unveiled internationally alongside the Edge 50 Pro and Edge 50 Fusion on April 3. It then remains to be seen which of these phones will also come to the US and how they will be branded in the US to follow in the footsteps of the mid-range Motorola Edge (2023) and the high-end Edge Plus (2023).
