YouTube testing a feature to help you skip ahead to the most interesting parts of a video

Imagine listening to your favorite podcast on YouTube, but then the conversation descends into “boring territory.” You want to ignore it and move on again to where the topic is different and exciting. NOW, Android Title Reports that YouTube is working to make jumping ahead easier with a new Jump Ahead feature.

The feature is currently available to a small subset of users and is in testing. This is an experimental feature, meaning it's only available to people with a YouTube Premium subscription.

If you want to try similar new features, you can visit YouTube's experimentation page. Alternatively, through the YouTube app, you can tap your profile picture > Settings > Try experimental features.

This experimental feature, like others of its type, will be available for a short time.

But what does the feature offer? Well, when you double-tap to move forward in a video, YouTube will offer you to choose from certain sections of the video. Sections will be determined based on user data. So basically, if many users navigate to a section of the video, that will be one of the recommended places to navigate to.

The experimental feature is available on a limited selection of videos. However, as with any experimental feature, it is unclear if or when it will become an official feature. When we know more, we'll let you know, so stay tuned!
