Can Samsung beat OnePlus?
With the Galaxy Z Fold 6Compared to Samsung's predecessors, Samsung finally introduced a gapless design, but did not fix the atrocious display crease that runs through the screen like a canyon. We hope that Galaxy Z Fold 6 won't feature a display crease, but that would require a major hinge redesign, which we hope to get.
Meanwhile, the OnePlus Open is an extremely lightweight and well-built foldable phone with no corners between the bottom and top panels, as well as virtually no display creases, making for a very pleasant user experience.
We expect that the OnePlus Open will remain the largest, and above all, the widest foldable.
From the point of view of resistance, the OnePlus Open is simply rated as an IPX4 device, meaning it is splash-proof only and any serious contact with water could damage it. During this time, we expect that Galaxy Z Fold 6 being an IP68 water and dust resistant phone, even allowing you to submerge the foldable underwater for up to 30 minutes.
Each of them will have some sort of unique characteristic. For the OnePlus Open, it's the extremely useful ring switch, a signature quirk of OnePlus. At the same time, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will definitely support Samsung's useful S Pen, and if the rumors are to be taken seriously, the phone could finally boast a silo to hold the accessory in place.
Display differences
As mentioned, the OnePlus Open will probably be the phone with the largest screen. It has a 7.8-inch internal display, which has a near-perfect square aspect ratio, while the external display measures 6.3 inches diagonally. Both displays are AMOLED, with HDR support, dynamic refresh rate of up to 120Hz for an ultra-smooth experience, and high peak brightness on both displays. Plus, no display crease, which is a huge advantage over foldables.
At the same time, we do not have much information about Galaxy Z Fold 6the specific display properties of . However, some things will be certain. Of course, there will be two displays, both Dynamic AMOLED, with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz for a smooth scrolling experience.
Performance and software
The power of Snapdragon
Meanwhile, the OnePlus Open comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. It was the best chipset available at the time of OnePlus Openand that really helped the foldable to fly simply.
From a memory perspective, we suspect that Galaxy Z Fold 6 will arrive with at least 12GB of RAM, as well as 256GB of storage, but there will likely be 512GB and possibly a 1TB version of the phone. Meanwhile, the OnePlus Open can be yours in just one version, with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage.
Camera
THE OnePlus Open comes with a pretty decent camera setup. It has a 48 MP main lens aided by a 48 MP ultra-wide lens and a 64 MP telephoto lens with 3X optical zoom. The main camera uses a large 1/1.43″ stacked Sony LYTIA-T808 sensor. An innovative pixel layout makes this sensor capable of capturing more light and providing much greater dynamics than more conventional camera sensors. As far as foldable cameras come and go, the OnePlus Open is quite capable, all things considered.
Elsewhere, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will come with the following configuration:
- 50 MP main sensor with f/1.8 aperture and OIS;
- Secondary 10MP telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture, OIS and 3x optical zoom;
- 12MP ultra wide angle with f/2.2 aperture.
If this one looks familiar, that's because it is: Samsung is reusing the same general camera setup from the Galaxy Z Fold 4. We think the bulk of possible improvements will come on the software side.
Audio and haptic quality
THE OnePlus Open delivers spectacular sound, with a three-speaker spatial setup that also supports Dolby Atmos. The phone delivers punchy, rich sound that is a pleasure to listen to. Samsung has never been a slouch when it comes to audio, so we generally expect the Galaxy Z Fold 6 to impress too.
Haptically, the OnePlus Open offers excellent haptics thanks to its new motor on the X axis. It remains to be seen if the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will be significantly better than its predecessor.
Battery life and charging
heated battle
We don't know what Galaxy Z Fold 6 Battery capacity might still be limited, but rumors say we could see a total battery capacity of 4,600 mAh on the Galaxy Z Fold 6.
In terms of charging, it will also be quite difficult to surpass OnePlus. The latter supports 67W super-fast wired charging, which fully charges the phone in just 43 minutes. Rumors say that Galaxy Z Fold 6 could reiterate the 25W wired charging of its predecessor, so a potential 80-minute full charge is on the horizon. There will, however, likely be wireless charging on board.

Summary
THE OnePlus Open is certainly one of best foldable phones to beat right now. With a great design, great cameras, and top-notch performance and battery life, the OnePlus Open I got so many things right on the first try. And there will probably be a second generation coming this year as well. Samsung finally has a worthy opponent against OnePlus' foldable range.
THE Galaxy Z Fold 6 is shaping up to be a phone that isn't such a drastic step forward from the previous generation. Frankly speaking, to beat the OnePlus OpenSamsung needs to be much bolder in its entire philosophy when it comes to foldable phones. It is objectively true that Galaxy Z Fold phones have stagnated over the past few years, despite being the first to hit the global market with their unique foldable feature.
