WhatsApp is testing a new interface to share text-based status updates easily،

WhatsApp is one of the most used messaging apps in the world and since its acquisition by tech giant Meta, it has evolved with more social media-like features. Recently, we reported that WhatsApp status updates were becoming more and more like Instagram Stories, now allowing users to tag others. And it looks like more changes are on the horizon for status updates. In the latest WhatsApp beta update for Android (v2.24.7.16), the team at WABetaInfo discovered a redesigned edit page for status updates. It now includes a Text option alongside the existing Video and Photo options at the bottom of the screen. Currently, WhatsApp only allows video and photo updates through the My Status option in the Updates tab.

In the screenshot you can see that at the bottom of the screen users will have the choice to choose to share text, videos or photos, which will make the sharing process even better. This new way to share status updates is still in development and will be available in a future app update.

Currently, users can only access the text status editor by tapping the pencil icon in the Updates tab. It is good to know that WhatsApp does not allow you to change the status type (text, photo, video) once you are in the editor/preview page. If you need to change it, you will have to go back and start again.

If the new update comes out of beta and becomes official, it could bring several benefits, including reducing the number of steps needed to switch between text and media. With this choice built right into the composer, users can quickly switch between different content types without having to leave the current screen. This will improve efficiency and convenience.

In addition, WhatsApp is reportedly working on AI-based image editing tools. But that's not all in the AI realm, as the messaging app is reportedly considering integrating Meta AI directly into its search bar.
