Spotify launches video course trial in the UK،

Spotify, the audio streaming giant, is moving into a whole new area of content: educational video courses. In a announcement Today, the company reveals a launch that begins today for UK users, offering a variety of engaging courses to choose from.

The move marks a shift in Spotify's approach to content. No longer limited to just music, podcasts or audiobooks, the platform now caters to those seeking personal and professional development. They've partnered with renowned edtech companies including BBC Maestro, PLAYvirtuoso, Skillshare and Thinkific to offer a curated selection of high-quality video courses.

Spotify's initial video course offerings cover four key areas:

  1. Make Music: Immerse yourself in the world of music production and instrument mastery.
  2. Get creative: Unlock your artistic potential with photography, design or writing lessons.
  3. Learn Business: Gain valuable skills for entrepreneurship and career advancement.
  4. Healthy Living: Discover techniques for mindfulness, fitness and well-being.

Babar Zafar, Vice President of Product Development at Spotify, spoke of this UK-based test as an opportunity to explore how to better serve the Spotify community and give them what they are actively interested in, saying: “ Many of our users engage with podcasts and audiobooks. on a daily basis to meet their learning needs, and we believe this highly engaged community will be interested in accessing and purchasing quality content from video course creators. This speaks to a growing trend: many users already enjoy podcasts and audiobooks to improve their skills, and educational video courses are a natural extension.

Spotify is encouraging its free and premium UK subscribers to take advantage of this new feature, as they will be able to try a few lessons for free before having to make a purchasing decision. These courses will be available in the Home and Browse tabs of the mobile app as well as on the Web. However, once you register for a course, it will be available on both mobile and desktop.

It's unclear whether there are plans to offer this feature to users outside the UK if this test proves successful. However, the company says that if this happens, it could pave the way for a broader video learning experience directly on the Spotify platform.
