UEFA settles Liverpool fans’ claims over 2022 UCL final chaos،
UEFA reached a final settlement on Friday with Liverpool fans who filed personal injury claims related to their experience at the 2022 Champions League final in Paris.
Thousands of Liverpool fans were unable to enter the Stade de France for the May 28 final, which Real Madrid won 1-0, causing a 36-minute delay as French police were filmed gassing supporters outside the stadium.
“Liverpool supporters, represented by Pogust Goodhead and Bingham Long, will receive a sum in compensation for the difficulties and challenges they have faced,” UEFA said in a statement, adding that the terms of the settlement would remain confidential.
European football's governing body initially blamed the Merseyside club's supporters for the chaos, before apologizing following the publication of an independent review last year.
UEFA subsequently introduced a reimbursement system, but Real Madrid called it “insufficient” and refused to contribute, while affected fans resorted to legal action.
Following the incident, the governing body also launched a series of measures for the upcoming final, including implementing the recommendations of the independent review, increasing the number of security officers and involving supporters in planning and execution.
