Smartphones arguably get better with each iteration. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series is undoubtedly one of the best examples. What hasn’t changed, the successors are just incremental upgrades. According to the latest leak straight from the mouth of tipster Ice Universe, the main camera on board next year’s Galaxy Z Fold6 won’t see any changes from what we currently have.

The tipster is sure of the development, which means if it’s true, we’ll end up with almost the same camera technology coming from the Z Fold4 to the Z Fold5 and next year’s Z Fold6. This means we could see the same 50 MP Samsung GN3 sensor (1.0 micron pixel size and 1/1.56″ sensor size) that drives the main camera on the Z Fold5 and Z Fold4.

The next-generation foldable Samsung Galaxy will be thinner

In another piece of news coming from South Korean publication The Elec (again, a reliable and credible source), the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 will likely be thinner than the Fold5. Currently, the Z Fold5 measures 6.1mm thick when unfolded and 13.4mm when folded. To put things in context, the Galaxy Z Fold4 measured 6.3mm when unfolded and 15.8mm when folded.

Rumor has it that Samsung Electronics is trying to make next year’s Z Fold6 thinner than the Z Fold5. It will compete head-on with the Huawei Mate X5 which measures 11.1mm when folded. The Xiaomi Mix Fold 3, on the other hand, measures 10.9mm, which gives away the extent of the work Samsung has undertaken to make its foldable thinner than before.

The report hints at how Samsung will reverse engineer Huawei’s Mate If this is also true, we can expect next year’s Galaxy Z Fold6 to have both a slimmer profile and a larger battery that currently stands at 4,400mAh.

For context, the OnePlus Open is 11.7mm thick (folded) housing a massive 5,060mAh battery under the hood. The OnePlus Open was announced on October 19, giving the Chinese manufacturer a start in the foldable category that has become saturated with players from Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei, Oppo, Motorola and OnePlus, among others.
