Cameron Sutton wanted in battery case; police can’t find Lions CB،
Police in Florida have been searching for Detroit Lions cornerback Cameron Sutton for about two weeks after an arrest warrant was issued for his alleged involvement in a domestic violence case.
Sutton faces a charge of domestic battery by strangulation, a third-degree felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
Phil Martello, a spokesman for the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, told ESPN on Wednesday that police have been unable to locate Sutton since March 7, when the arrest warrant was issued. Police had responded to a call early that morning at a home in Lutz, Florida, where Sutton allegedly beat a woman before fleeing the scene.
Another spokesperson for the sheriff's office told ESPN that there were signs of injuries on the woman's body.
Sutton has a home in neighboring Pinellas County, but police could not find him there and he did not respond to frequent calls from detectives, Martello said.
“We became aware of the ongoing legal situation involving Cam Sutton this morning,” the Lions said in a statement. “We will continue to monitor the situation and will have no further comment at this time.”
The sheriff's office publish a post on social networks Wednesday, asking for help if anyone has seen Sutton.
Sutton, 29, joined the Lions as an unrestricted free agent last summer after spending his first six NFL seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He started all 17 games for the Lions, recording 60 total tackles, six passes defended and one interception. Sutton was selected by the Steelers in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
