Open AI, the brains behind ChatGPT has announced the launch of the next major update for DALL-E. Dall-E is an image generation tool that allows users to create images based on text prompts. The first version was launched in January 2021 and DALL-E 3 will be available to the general public soon.

DALL-E 3: release date

DALL-E 3 officially arrived on the 20th^th August 2023, but at the time it was exclusively reserved for researchers. In October, a new version of AI Image Generator was released more widely and is now available on Microsoft’s Bing Chat. Only ChatGPT Plus users have access to this feature. It remains to be seen when DALL-E 3 will launch for non-Bing Chat/non-subscribers.

Origin of DALL-E

Dall-E is a generative AI technology that allows users to create new images with text prompts in graphics. DALL-E is a neural network capable of generating entirely new images in a number of different styles, as specified by user prompts.

The name DALL-E is a combination of 2 central technological themes alluding to the goal of merging art and AI technology. DALL is meant to evoke the famous Spanish surrealist artist Salvador Dali, while “E” is related to Disney’s working robot, Wall-E. The combination of 2 names reflects the abstract and somewhat surreal illustrative power of machine-automated technology.

DALL-E was developed by AI vendor OpenAI and was first released in January 2021. It uses deep learning models with a large GPT-3 language model as a basis for understanding user prompts in natural language and generate new images.

The first generation of DALL-E generated images from text using a technology known as discrete variational autoencoder which was somewhat based on research conducted by Alphabet’s DeepMind division with the vector quantized variational autoencoder.

DALL-E 2 improved upon the methods used for its first generation to create high-end, photorealistic images. It works with the use of a diffusion model which integrates data from the CLIP model to help generate a higher quality image.

New features in DALL-E 3

1. DALL-E 3 now comes with brainstorming support. It’s built from ChatGPT, which means fast sharpening and easy image adjustments. Users can check out ChatGPT to brainstorm new image ideas.

2. DALL-E 3 has better efficiency and faster speed when generating images from text. The aim is to limit the hassle of generating images, rendering more detailed, expressive and specific images, better suited to the user’s needs.

3. DALL-E 3 can be used directly through Microsoft’s Bing search engine. It’s available through Bing Chat rather than being powered by a standalone tool. The feature was introduced in October and is available now. It is available only for ChatGPT Plus users who need to pay a monthly subscription.

4. DALL-E 3 focuses even more on its security protocols, including preventing the generation of images containing adult, violent or hateful images. To avoid copyright infringement, DALL-E 3 will refuse to produce images resembling living public figures or directly imitating the style of living artists.

5. DALL-E 3 takes publicly available data and uses it to create completely new images inspired by previously acquired data. Since not all artists want their data used by DALL-E 3, OpenAI provides 2 options for content owners to opt out, either by filling out an online form or by blocking the GPTBot (crawler Web designed to collect training information) to access their site.

OpenAI says the biggest change between DALL-E 3 and DALL-E 2 is its ability to better understand text prompts, especially longer ones. It is very similar to DALL-E and is trained on a smaller database than DALL-E, making it less accurate than DALL-E. The faces look blotchy and indistinct on this one. However, it is free and unlimited and the range of content has no restrictions regarding adult or political topics.

Dream by Wombo is a free AI art generator available on their website and as an app for Android and iOS. He specializes in dreamlike and surreal images, but can also create faces and human figures. You can increase your text entry with a mandatory choice of artistic style on Wombo. The output is in portrait orientation and the platform is free. Nudity and sexual topics are rejected by the app.

Adobe’s popular Photoshop editing suite has also gained an impressive new AI image generation feature that lets you extend existing images and remove distractions. It’s intuitive and easy to use and requires no payments beyond an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription.
