New Apple Watches will come with new gestures, here’s a sneak peek،

There is a The Apple Watch patent bonanza spotted by AppleInsider it shows what the future holds for Cupertino timepieces and how we operate them.

As we dive into the AI era, the interaction between humans and smart devices is expected to become even more intuitive and hassle-free. In the case of future smartwatches, you will just need to learn a number of tricks and manual gestures to use your watch more easily.

New patent findings show several ways to control the upcoming Apple Watch with a new range of gestures.

One notable gesture highlighted in the patent is starting with a flat palm and fingers extended, followed by a horizontal movement of the fingers from side to side.

Depicted in the patent, this “side-to-side” movement could be used for functions such as replying to text messages or answering calls, and it could be integrated with additional gestures. Many innovative UI features revolve around the use of a closed fist.

Like pinching, clenching your fist can be used to press a button or choose a quick text response. By clenching your fist and rotating your wrist, you can scroll through text suggestions or decide whether to answer a call or send it to voicemail.

Many gestures include security features such as countdown timers to avoid mistakenly accepting unwanted calls. To answer a call, make a fist, turn your wrist and hold it there for a few seconds.

The pinch gesture on the Apple Watch felt more like a first step towards an interface system than a complete UI solution. These additional gestures improve control of Apple Watch by integrating more intuitive actions.

Apple's upcoming moves don't have an official introduction date; it could still take years. However, once these new features are implemented, they could greatly enrich your interaction with the Apple Watch.

In late October 2023, double-tap gestures landed on the Apple Watch 9 and Watch Ultra 2.

There are 10 major watchOS interface actions that you can trigger on your Watch 9 or Watch Ultra 2 with a simple double-tap pinch gesture and Apple lists them as follows:

  • Answer and end calls.
  • Repeat an alarm.
  • Play or pause music, podcasts and audiobooks.
  • Launch primary notification action (message reply, snooze reminders) also from third-party apps.
  • Take a photo on iPhone with Camera Remote in the Camera app.
  • Show a message from the notification, scroll through the longest ones with an additional double tap, dictate the response and send it.
  • Open the Smart Stack from any watch face and scroll through the widgets in the stack.
  • Pause, resume, or end a timer or stopwatch.
  • Switch to the new Elevation view in the Compass app.
  • Start or pause automatic workout reminders.
