Chrome 123 What’s New: PDF Viewing on Mobile, Tab Group Sharing, and More ،

Google has been racing to make Chrome the best browser by improving it and adding new features over time. Well, after introducing the new picture-in-picture Chrome tabs feature in Chrome 122, Google is working to bring another important feature i.e. PDF file support for the Chrome mobile app.

PDF support for mobile app

The desktop version of Chrome browser can already open PDFs directly without downloading them (if possible). This makes it convenient for the user since they do not need to constantly switch between multiple windows to read the PDF and browse the Internet at the same time.

This feature was still missing on the mobile version of the browser. However, with the new Chrome 123 update, that changes for good. Chrome will now be able to open PDFs, meaning users won't need to leave their browser if they want to read a PDF.

Although the feature is not yet available, the code for it has already been defined, as shown in the Chrome flag: chrome://flags/#android-open-pdf-inline. This will make Chrome the first mobile browser to open PDFs without an external app. Other Chromium-based browsers are also expected to follow suit soon.

Easier tab group sharing

Another cool feature suggested by Chrome 123's flags is the ability to share a link to an entire tab group. This will make it much easier to share groups of tabs with other users and will also allow them to easily open all shared tabs at once. This is a welcome change since you can currently only share individual links within a tab group.

Generative AI features enabled by default

In addition to these new features, Google now enables the browser's generative AI features by default. This means that users who are unfamiliar with this feature can finally get a taste of it. Don't worry; If you don't want to use Chrome's generative AI features, you can always turn them off.

Unsubscribe button

Another Chrome flag, chrome://flags#notification-one-tap-unsubscribesuggests a new “Unsubscribe” in notifications so you can quickly get rid of unwanted notifications from sites you might have accidentally subscribed to. This is a great feature that many users will appreciate.
