England star Immanuel Feyi-Waboso has been ruled out of Saturday's Six Nations final against France due to concussion symptoms.

Feyi-Waboso, 21, was outstanding in England's 23-22 win over Ireland last weekend – his first start after two substitutions against Italy and Scotland – but after the match , he reported concussion symptoms to the coaching staff. Due to mandatory concussion protocols, Feyi-Waboso will miss the match in Lyon on Saturday.

His three Six Nations caps come just 10 months after playing third division rugby.

“Manny is out with a blow to the head,” Richard Wigglesworth, England's attack coach, told reporters on Tuesday. “He was feeling a little groggy, but we don't take any chances with that sort of thing. He's visibly drained, but being the smart boy he is, he reported his symptoms.

“There was no major incident. He took a blow and wasn't feeling quite well, so he reported the symptoms and was then taken off as a result. It's completely one of the reasons why education took place, as players know.

“The players are looked after better than ever, the rules support head butts. I always felt that as a player it was my responsibility, having known everything, to make sure I was safe and that part of education is allowing yourself to do that, which he did.

Feyi-Waboso is training to become a doctor and has self-diagnosed her symptoms. Despite his absence, England have opted not to call up a replacement and will therefore likely choose between experienced option Elliot Daly and uncapped duo Will Muir and Tom Roebuck for whoever starts against France.
