Garmin owners report bugs in Fenix 7, Epix 2: the OHR sensor turns on randomly،
Owners of Garmin smartwatches like the Fenix 7 and Epix 2 are reporting issues with their devices after a recent beta software update.
Users have expressed concerns about the optical heart rate (OHR) sensor automatically activating during beta 16.xx cycle activities (via NotebookCheck). The problem is widely discussed on the Garmin Beta Program forum, especially by users of Fenix 7, Epix 2 and similar models.
They highlighted two main concerns: Continuous operation of the sensor drains the battery more quickly and appears to lead to inaccuracies in heart rate data, particularly when using a heart rate monitor (HRM) chest strap ). Garmin acknowledged these concerns, noting that while battery life may decrease, heart rate data recorded in FIT files should primarily come from the HRM. Watch data, they say, is only used in exceptions such as failure or battery disconnection from the HRM. Another important factor is related to Garmin Pay; Disabling OHR means Garmin Pay requires a PIN for transactions, as the watch is considered wristless. Garmin says this could be inconvenient, but it also mentions that after entering a PIN, users can transact for 24 hours without entering it again, as long as the watch remains on the wrist and the heart rate feature remains active.
If users wish to disable the OHR sensor, this can be done by going to Menu > Sensors & Access > Wrist HR > Disable.
