Lenovo’s newest Android tablet is made for gaming… but not the US،

If you're a fan of Android tablets that have big specs but little price, you're probably already familiar with Lenovo's extensive and somewhat confusing product portfolio, rivaling the iPad. But the company's latest device might be the most head-scratching yet, targeting mobile gamers with a silky 144Hz screen, 12GB of RAM, and a proprietary cooling system dubbed Legion ColdFront.

These aren't the most confusing details about the “new” Lenovo Legion Tab, however, with that name it's very difficult to distinguish this 8.8-inch model from older members of the same family. A Snapdragon 870-powered Legion Y700 slate with its own 8.8-inch display launched in 2022, mind you, followed by… another Y700 variant last year.

It turns out that the Lenovo Legion Tab 2024 is pretty much identical to this latest 2023 Y700 edition, packing the exact same Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor and just expanding to a wider audience now under a simpler moniker.

Unfortunately, the rebranded 8.8-inch Legion Tab is still not scheduled for release in the United States, but will go on sale in EMEA (i.e. Europe, Middle East and Africa) later this month for €599. That doesn't make it an incredibly affordable tablet, but of course there are a number of good reasons why Lenovo couldn't drop this to $499 or $399.

Four of them are mentioned above, starting with this cutting-edge Lenovo PureSight 144Hz display equipped with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels, continuing with Legion ColdFront: Vapor technology designed to keep things nice cool during the most demanding periods. mobile gaming sessions and finish with a high-end Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC paired with a massive 12GB of RAM for smooth multitasking on the go.

Granted, the Lenovo Legion Tab doesn't come with Qualcomm's latest and greatest high-end processor under its hood… which is why it doesn't cost as much as an iPad Pro or Samsung Galaxy Tab S9. The design, billed by Lenovo as “stealth,” could also have been flashier and less generic, and we also can't say we're impressed by the dual 13 and 2 MP rear cameras that the company doesn't mention at all. all in today's announcement. .

But whether you intend to use this device for hardcore gaming or general entertainment purposes, its screen is certainly remarkable and the 6,550 mAh battery supporting 45W super-fast charging is certainly not not bad either, especially for a device measuring just 7.6mm thick while tipping the scales at 350 grams. Why, oh, why doesn't Lenovo bring this reasonably affordable Android powerhouse to the US?!
